With thousands of the world’s top surgeons, physiatrists, neurologists and other spine care specialists gathering in Orlando this week, for the 2017 North American Spine Society’s (NASS) largest event of the year we are anticipating countless breakthroughs in this rapidly evolving specialty. This meeting marks the 32nd year of NASS’ annual meeting and is expected to be the largest of its kind.

What Sessions to Attend

NASS ConferenceOur Florida Hospital, Spine Health Institute Medical Director, Chetan Patel, MD plays a critical role in this conference, as he serves as the chairman of the Navigation and Robotics Section. His sessions will be revolutionizing how minimally invasive spine surgery is performed from a navigation standpoint. Today, October 26th, he will be presenting on the following topics:

  • 2:10-3:10PM: Using Navigation to make MIS Easier: Tips, Techniques and Literature Support Room
  • 3:40-5:10PM: New Options in Robotics: Understanding the Choices, Optimizing Techniques and Economic Considerations

As a strong advocate for evidence-based healthcare, Dr. Patel places the greatest emphasis in his own practice on improving patient outcomes through long-term, effective medical solutions. And he both hopes and expects that NASS’s gathering of the leading providers in the field will yield a greater understanding, awareness – and ultimately, advancement – of the state of spine care worldwide.

Medical Innovations to Look For

Dr. PatelOver the past year, we have been watching out for latest tech in robotic surgery and took note of the AQRate System which has been evolving into a revolutionary robotic system. This system offers unique optical tracking and a flexible robotic arm while being compact in size. Although this robot is still making its way to the United States, it has officially performed its first human critical trial in Switzerland with Dr. Chetan Patel. To learn more about this robot, be sure to catch Dr. Chetan Patel at the NASS conference.

At the Florida Hospital Nicholson Center, we continue to keep a close eye on upcoming medical events and innovations in robotic surgery. To learn more about upcoming conferences visit our calendar.
