From November 30th-December 1st in Celebration, Florida, we are hosting our Robotic Abdominal Wall Surgery Course. With a strong practical focus, our course will include anatomical, clinical and surgical oriented lectures which will be practiced in the lab with hands-on anatomical dissections. The face-to-face relationships built during this course between the faculty and participants allows for physicians to continue to improve their abilities to treat abdominal wall hernias and better address diagnosis for patients once they have left our bioskills training lab.
Course Learning Objectives:
Current data suggests there are roughly 1.2 million abdominal hernia repairs in the United States each year. Out of those, a large portion of them are inguinal repairs, with a smaller minority developing into an incisional hernias. The robotic platform allows the surgeon to perform those surgeries while decreasing wound morbidity, which is extremely high in open repairs (up to 25-30%), in a more ergonomic manner compared to traditional laparoscopy. This course focuses on the following learning objectives:
- Examine and analyze the surgical techniques and methodology behind abdominal wall hernia repairs
- Discuss the role of robotic surgical system in correcting abdominal wall defects
- Use component separation techniques and their indicators on complex abdominal wall cases
